Florida lawmakers work to pass car windshield repair bill

ORLANDO, Fla. — If your car suffered any windshield damage during the storms this week you may want to get to a repair shop soon.

Lawmakers in Tallahassee are working on a new bill that could make it harder to deal with an insurance claim.

It would eliminate what is known as assignment of benefits.

That’s when a person hands over their claim to the auto repair shop.

The shop then bills insurance directly.

Lawmakers made the same move with roof repairs last year.

The bill has passed the Florida Senate and is headed to the House.

If signed into law, consumers would no longer be able to hand off their claims after July 1.
