WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — A crossing guard was critically injured Wednesday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash, the Winter Garden Police Department said.
At about 3:30 p.m., officers said they responded to the crash at State Road 50 and Avalon Road.
The crash resulted in a crossing guard being trapped under one of the vehicles, police said.
Officers said three people were taken to hospitals, including the crossing guard.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said it has employed the crossing guard for almost two years and that the guard was helping students from Tildenville Elementary and Lakeview Middle schools.
“Our crossing guards are an invaluable resource and are integral to keeping the kids of Orange County safe every day when they show up at their posts,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “We are praying for the crossing guard’s speedy recovery.”
Investigators are determining if there will be any charges in the case.
Eastbound lanes of State Road 50 at Avalon Road were expected to remain closed for several hours, police said.
