Deputies: Man arrested in deadly South Apopka shooting case

APOPKA, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man accused of killing a man who was raising money for his friend’s funeral at a home in South Apopka.

Clarene Gullen, who is accused of killing Maurice Bridges earlier this month, appeared before a judge Wednesday.

Deputies said Bridges attended a fish fry to raise money for Altonio Dunston’s funeral, who was killed in the same house just three days earlier.

According to the state attorney’s office, surveillance video shows a heavy set man and someone else firing shots at the party on Ella J Gilmore Drive.

Several witnesses at the scene identified Gullen as one of the shooters, the state attorney’s office said.

Investigators said Bridges did return fire, but he was shot once and then again while he was lying on the ground. Bridges later died of his injuries.

More arrests are expected in the case.
