OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Residents along Hudson Street in Kissimmee aren’t happy after saying they were blocked from getting their cars in and out of their driveways.

A construction crew hired by the city to pave dirt roads installed a new curb that was too high for some residents to drive over.

Resident Kevin Stewart said he and others were not given ample warning about the new curb.

“They just cut the driveways without warning and everything else and didn’t knock on nobody’s doors,” Stewart said.

Stewart said that left many people trapped.

“They left a lot of people sitting up by their houses, unable to get to work,” Stewart said.

According to the project manager with the city, the contractor, DB Civil Construction, is required by contract to give residents at least 24 hours’ notice of construction impacts.

City of Kissimmee engineer Victor Ponte said the city was told by the contractor the proper notifications were made.

“I spoke with the project manager from the contractor and they say yes, they notified them,”  Ponte said.

For its part, the city said the gaps would be filled in, and ramps would be put in if needed to ensure residents could get in and out.
