University of Pittsburgh discovers major breakthrough in treating, preventing COVID-19

Scientists in Pittsburgh have discovered a molecule they say can both treat and prevent COVID-19.

That molecule has been used to create a new drug call Ab8. The drug has stopped the virus in mice and hamsters so far.

A team of scientists began researching COVID-19 back in February and announced their breakthrough on Tuesday, seven months later.

The next step is human trials, which the university is hoping to start the beginning of next year.
