10-year-old boy dies after being pulled into rip currents in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A 10-year-old boy drowned Saturday evening in Daytona Beach, according to lifeguards.

Volusia County Beach Safety said the boy was swimming at around 6:15 p.m. with two other people.

Lifeguards were able to pull all of them to the beach.

They all got caught in a rip current about 100 yards from shore.

The boy was taken to Halifax Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The two other swimmers were not hurt.

Volusia County lifeguards said they rescued 53 people from the ocean on Saturday due to the hazardous conditions.
