They arrived to find a heavily damaged sedan that had rear-ended a semi-truck and caught fire.
One person was found trapped in the driver’s seat while a passenger was found lying in the roadway outside the car.
According to the sheriff’s office, one Flagler County deputy used his agency-issued fire extinguisher to reduce the flames while another deputy and several bystanders worked to free the driver from the car.

Once the driver was extricated, Flagler County Fire Rescue took over treating both occupants of the car and fully extinguished the flames.
Both patients were taken to a local hospital
“I commend our deputies and the citizens that assisted and likely saved the driver’s life,” Sheriff Staly said in a statement. “Working as a team and using a fire extinguisher to slow the spread of the fire and forcing the door open, they were able to gain access to the driver before the vehicle was engulfed in flames.”
