In a news release, the Netherlands Ministry of Defense said one of the soldiers was in critical condition. Officials with the Indianapolis Metro Police Department said two of the soldiers were in critical condition, WRTV, WTTV and the Indianapolis Star reported.

The soldiers are from the Commando Corps, which is a special defense unit of the Royal Netherlands Army, the Star reported. The soldiers were in Indiana for training exercises, the newspaper reported. The shooting occurred during the soldiers’ free time, the Ministry of Defense stated.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. EDT, according to the Star.

A preliminary investigation by Indianapolis police suggested that a disturbance occurred outside the hotel between the victims and the suspect(s), which led to the shooting, WTTV reported.

The third soldier was in stable condition, according to Indianapolis police.

The Ministry of Defense said that the shooting victims’ families have been told about the shooting, according to The Associated Press.

No arrests have been made and police said there was no threat to the public, the Star reported.

An investigation is ongoing, police said.
