California jewelry store owner trades shots with armed intruders

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — The owner of a Southern California jewelry store exchanged gunfire with armed intruders who broke into his store on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

The incident occurred at Isabella’s Fine Jewelry in the Huntington Harbour Mall, KCBS-TV reported.

The owner had the store locked while he was helping a customer when the suspects forcibly entered the building, Huntington Beach Police Department spokesperson Jessica Cuchilla told The Orange County Register.

The owner of the Huntington Beach store and the intruders traded shots before the suspects fled in two vehicles, according to the newspaper. It was unclear how many suspects were involved, but an initial investigation indicated that both vehicles had more than one person inside, Cuchilla said.

Police said a customer who was inside the store was cut by broken glass, KABC-TV reported. There were no other injuries reported, according to the television station.

Moments later, officers located a vehicle that crashed in Los Alamitos that was believed to be involved in the robbery, the Register reported. Officers detained one juvenile, according to the newspaper.

The type of guns used by the suspects was not immediately clear, and the descriptions of the intruders was not available, according to the Register.
