Shawn Dougherty was fishing off the Clarks River Bridge in Paducah and felt something hit his line at about 4:15 p.m. CDT, KFVS reported.

Members of the Paducah Police Department’s bomb squad and McCracken County sheriff’s deputies responded to the bridge, WPSD reported

According to a news release from the Paducah Police Department, Dougherty pulled up his line “to discover a grenade on the magnet,” The Paducah Sun reported.

“The squad used a robot to retrieve the grenade and put it into an explosive storage container,” the Paducah Police Department said in its news release. “There is no reason to believe that the community is in any danger and no foul play of any kind is associated with this incident.”

The grenade was then safely removed, authorities said.

The road leading to the bridge was closed for approximately four hours to secure the scene and safely remove the device, WPSD reported.
