The collar, made of glass beads, went on the block Wednesday in an online sale orchestrated by Bonhams, USA Today reported. It will end on Sept. 16, two days before the two-year anniversary of the 87-year-old liberal justice’s death.
The piece is part of a collection of about 100 items being sold in the online auction, The Associated Press reported. Other items from Ginsburg’s collection will include a pair of her opera glasses, lace gloves, a wooden gavel and artwork that hung in her Washington apartment, according to the news outlet. Ginsburg’s white handbag, a shawl, and scarves also will be sold.
According to Bonhams’ auction listing, proceeds from the auction will benefit the RBG Endowment Fund for SOS Children’s Villages, an organization dedicated to caring for children without parental care or who are at risk of losing it.
Bonhams estimated the collar’s value to be between $3,000 and $5,000, USA Today reported.
The collar, which Ginsburg wore on the bench as an accessory to her black robe, was her most notable fashion item, according to the AP. Her family donated several of them to the Smithsonian.
In January, a Bonhams auction of the justice’s personal library brought in more than $2.35 million and more bidders than any other online auction in Bonhams’ history, USA Today reported.
