CAYCE, S.C. — A South Carolina woman credits hard work for feeling good on her 104th birthday.
Inez Smith, of Cayce, is loving life. She turned 104 on Thursday, according to South Carolina online birth records.
“I feel good, good, good,” Smith told WLTX.
Smith was born two days before John F. Kennedy. Her family said she ran a daycare in Cayce for more than 40 years, where she helped raise hundreds of children, the television station reported.
“Oooh Lord,” Smith told WLTX. “I guess working hard. Because I worked so hard in my days. I worked about two jobs and then keeping house with the children, I’ve just been working hard.”
Smith’s family and friends gathered Saturday to honor her big day. A firetruck and a caravan of cars drove by as Smith sat on a front porch, enjoying the scene.
“I’m just surprised to see all of them, that’s it,” Smith told WLTX. “It’s beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.”
