Slidell police said in a Facebook post that they received a call saying, “a 78-year-old elderly man was actively being attacked by a squirrel, who was eating his hand. The man was attempting to choke the squirrel, but was unable to obtain a good grip.”

When police arrived at the scene, they said the man was still being attacked, WDSU reported. Police told the station that the animal was “subdued and died,” and the man was then taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The 78-year-old victim told police that he had been walking outside of his home when the squirrel attacked, unprovoked, NOLA.com reported.

In their Facebook post, Slidell police noted that this was the second squirrel attack in the city this year. The first was in February, during a Mardi Gras parade.
