Pence, DeSantis meet in South Florida to discuss major COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials

MIAMI — Vice President Mike Pence and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis met in South Florida on Monday for a discussion on COVID-19 vaccine development.

They discussed the beginning of phase III trials for a coronavirus vaccine at the University of Miami, that will be one of the many places testing a new vaccine.

Pence was in Florida to talk about what could be a game changer for those fighting COVID-19.

The Food and Drug Administration has given the go ahead for these clinical trials of a vaccine.

The University of Miami will be one of 89 sites to conduct these trials. The school will test 1,000 out of the 30,000 that will participate.

There are still questions about how the vaccine will be distributed and who will get it first, but the FDA commissioner Steve Hahn said Monday it is too early to tell.
