ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — COVID positivity rates in Orange Country are going up every day.

Despite the rising number of cases, the county’s testing sites remain closed.

In March, the testing sites at Barnett Park, the South Orange Youth Sports Complex and the Econ Soccer Complex in Orange County closed. At that time the county’s 14-day positivity rate was at 2.6%.

Since the beginning of May, the Orange County Department of Health reports that positivity rates keep rising daily, going from 11.6 % on May 4 to 16.4% on May 13.

“I’m not so worried about the COVID numbers, we’re both vaccinated. We both recently had COVID,” said Abby Bennett. “Testing is happening at home now, so it’s not a big deal. There’s testing everywhere, it’s more everybody’s individual responsibility.”

Meanwhile, resident John Crowe said, “I haven’t been tested yet. I’ve been isolating myself for mostly two years. I work at home now, so I had home tests that the government sent.

“I think there should be more testing. This pandemic is not over by any means. There are still people getting COVID and hospitalizations are increasing right now as we speak,” Crowe added.

According to the Orange County Government website in addition to being able to order at-home tests, locations like CVS and Walgreens still make appointments.

The site also stated that since January the FDA started limiting the use of monoclonal antibody therapy to treat COVID-19 and there are no state-supporting treatment sites in Orange County.
