SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Thousands of Seminole County students are preparing for the start of the new school year and the district is set to give laptops to students Tuesday.
District officials said they ordered about 12,000 laptops for this upcoming school year for students who are learning online.
At the end of last week, the district reported it received about 1,600 laptops.

The school year begins Aug. 17 in Seminole County.
“We put in those orders and it’s taking some time to fill them. Then they arrive and they sit in customs for a little bit,” said Michael Lawrence, a communication officer for Seminole County Public Schools.

The district is expected to receive more than 5,500 laptops this week and another 5,000 later this month.
The district said the delay is because of a nationwide laptop shortage.
