Gov. DeSantis says schools must reopen to give parents more options for students

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis held a roundtable discussion on education Monday afternoon and said it is important to give choices to parents as schools get ready to reopen.

But some districts are struggling with reopening, worried they will open just to shut down again.

The governor said he could feel the excitement for some schools that are getting ready to reopen.

DeSantis made it clear during the roundtable that brick-and-motor schools need to be open.

He knows there are concerns still about sending kids to school as the state still has thousands of daily new coronavirus cases.

“I have looked at the data, and I am comfortable that’s it’s just very low risk,” DeSantis said. “But I also understand there is a lot of angst, a lot of fear.”

Outbreaks in other states have already shut down schools in Georgia, where they have been open only for days.
