LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A small city in Lake County may be on track to host a population boom.

Leaders in Mascotte are looking at a development that could more than double the city’s population.
If approved as is, the plan would include, 2,800 homes along with some commercial development.
The proposed project includes a lot of homes. Developers are asking for a zoning change for nearly a thousand acres. It’s currently zoned as agricultural land.

Mascotte is a small community of around 6,800 people.
The proposed project, called Langley Estates, covers 943 acres over several parcels of land.
Some residents have voiced concerns on whether Mascotte could handle the population growth.
Council already approved the project on the first reading, but it must be passed in a second meeting with public comment, which the city manager said will likely happen on March 1.
