FORT MYERS, Fla. — President Donald Trump returned to Florida on Wednesday evening to campaign for Gov. Rick Scott and former U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis in Fort Myers.

Thousands of supporters filled the Hertz Arena to hear Trump speak.

"In less than one week, Americans will go to the polls in one of the most important elections in our lives," he said. "Who voted? Who voted? Everybody voted already? Then what the hell am I doing here tonight?"

Wednesday's rally was among the final 11 campaign rallies planned for the president before Election Day.

CENTRAL FLORIDA DECIDES:

Republicans said they are hopeful Trump's campaign blitz will make a difference in the battle for Florida's U.S. Senate seat, which is occupied by U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson but sought by Scott.

"We're especially proud to be joined by the next senator from Florida, Gov. Rick Scott," Trump said. "He's always getting it done."

He had Scott join him on stage.

"We can bring this country together and make this a place to be proud of," Scott said.

Trump said Florida needs to keep a Republican in the governor's mansion.

"I'd like to introduce the next governor of Florida," he said of DeSantis, who hopes to replace Scott.

"Come out between now and Nov. 6, and I will protect Florida's future," DeSantis said.

Polls indicate Scott and DeSantis are in a dead heat in their races against Nelson and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum.
