BOCA RATON, Fla. — A Florida woman was arrested Thursday after leaving a newborn baby in a trash bin at a South Florida apartment complex, investigators said.
Rafaelle Sousa was arrested and charged with attempted felony murder and child abuse, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
Sousa, 35, told investigators she delivered the baby girl, then put the infant in a bag and into the trash bin, WPTV reported.
Two workers were walking in the Alister Boca Raton neighborhood Wednesday morning when they found the child alive in the trash.
The newborn was taken to the hospital and is expected to live.
