MELBOURNE, Fla. — Repairs are underway on a flood-damaged water main in Melbourne, and a precautionary boil-water notice for all city water customers could remain in effect through Friday, Nov. 6, officials said Thursday.
Crews located and isolated the break Wednesday afternoon, restoring service throughout the system. Some customers may still experience low water pressure as repairs continue. Officials asked customers to conserve water.

The notice, issued Nov. 2, covers customers in Indialantic, Indian Harbour Beach, Melbourne, Melbourne Beach, Melbourne Village, Palm Shores, Satellite Beach, West Melbourne and unincorporated Brevard County south of the Pineda Causeway who receive Melbourne water bills. Suntree and Viera, which receive water from Cocoa, are not affected.
Severe flooding in south Melbourne damaged the main earlier in the week, causing widespread pressure drops. Before crews isolated the break, areas south of U.S. 192 between Dairy Road and U.S. 1 had little or no service.

Customers should bring water to a rolling boil for one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes. Bottled water may be used instead.

The notice will remain in effect until repairs are complete and water-quality testing confirms the water is safe to drink. Officials will issue updates when test results are available.
