MELBOURNE, Fla. — Melbourne Orlando International Airport resumed commercial flights Tuesday following severe flooding, but passengers face closed terminal restrooms and limited food service because of water system problems.

Airport officials said multiple water main breaks are disrupting Melbourne’s water system, including service to the airport.

The reopening follows flooding that stranded vehicles and prompted warnings to avoid unnecessary travel in West Melbourne.

Use restrooms before arriving

All airport terminal restrooms are temporarily closed because of inadequate water pressure, according to the airport’s Tuesday announcement.

Passengers are strongly encouraged to use restroom facilities before traveling to the airport. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the terminal while normal handwashing facilities remain unavailable.

Melbourne remains under a precautionary boil water notice as city crews work to locate and repair water main breaks.

Food service remains limited

Airport restaurants and food concessions are temporarily unable to prepare or serve meals.

A limited selection of prepackaged snacks and bottled beverages will be available for purchase.

Public parking was not affected by the flooding, and rental car companies continue to serve customers, airport officials said.

Check flights and road conditions

Passengers should check directly with their airline for the latest flight information before leaving for the airport.

Officials also encouraged travelers to allow extra time and check road conditions because flooding may continue to affect airport access.

The airport said it is coordinating with Melbourne officials as water service is restored.
