ORLANDO, Fla. — State education leaders are telling school districts to ignore certain new guidelines from the federal government.
The guidelines were meant to provide more clarity on sex discrimination under Title IX.
Florida Education Commissioner Manny Diaz sent a letter to school superintendents telling them to ignore new guidelines from the White House.
President Joe Biden had told schools not to discriminate based on sex stereotypes, orientation or gender identity.
Diaz wrote that the guidance doesn’t require schools to allow transgender students access to bathrooms of the gender they identify with.
Channel 9 reached out to the U.S. Department of Education for comment but have not received a response.
