16-year-old arrested in attempted carjacking, shooting near Dr. Phillips High School

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 16-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday in connection with an attempted carjacking and shooting earlier this month near Dr. Phillips High School, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

Detectives said Keon Charles was involved in the Nov. 15 incident on Megan Elissa Lane, along with three other accomplices.

Deputies said the victim, Mike Polder, saw the people in his vehicle, and when he approached them, they drove away and opened fire.

“The victim observed two individuals in his vehicle. A confrontation ensued and the two subjects pulled away in the victim’s vehicle,” said Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jeff Williamson. “At some point, they bail out of the vehicle, shooting the victim and fleeing on foot.”

Polder suffered gunshot wounds to the face and arm, and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. He is expected to be OK.

It’s still not clear what role deputies believe Charles played in the incident or how deputies found the suspect.

Deputies have not said his charges.

Three others remain at large.
