2 cases of meningitis reported in Marion County

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Health officials are investigating two cases of a rare form of meningitis in Marion County.

The cases involve an 87-year-old man and 65-year-old woman.

Officials said they believe a steroid injection for back pain is the cause for the outbreak.

So far, there have been 26 reported cases of the outbreak across five states, with more cases expected. Five people have died as a result of the bacteria.
