Girl, boy threatened to shoot up Westridge Middle School, deputies say

ORLANDO, Fla. — A 14-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy were arrested after threatening to shoot up Westridge Middle School on Tuesday, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators said Collisa Myrie and Cicero Williams face felony charges of written threats to kill.

"We take these threats very seriously regardless of actual intent," the agency said in a tweet Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Sheriff's Office, a school resource officer received notice from a staff member at the school that the employee had received a text message threatening violence at the schools.

"The first message came in saying the violence to the school was going to be done the following day, so it was going to be done tomorrow," an official said.

The faculty member received another text 10 minutes later that said violence toward the school was imminent, deputies said.

Skywitness video showed at least 10 cruisers cars at the school and multiple deputies with rifles searching the school in response to the threat.

Staff members and faculty were evacuated so deputies could check the campus before deeming the building was safe.

School was already dismissed by the time the texts were sent.

Deputies said they would return to the school Wednesday to ensure students' safety.
