Driver dead after crashing into pond near Kissimmee

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A woman pulled from a vehicle after it crashed into a pond in Kissimmee Monday died after officials believe she suffered a seizure.

The accident happened near US-192 close to Shakerag Road.

The driver was identified as  Mary Arbour, 64.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the car was stopped on the shoulder of the road, and as other drivers approached the car to check on the woman, her car drove forward, left the roadway and went into the pond.

At least three people went into the pond to try to rescue the woman.

Witnesses said they were able to get a back door of the car open and the woman's dog got out, but they could not get to the woman.

Troopers said divers later recovered Arbour and transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Her dog survived, according to troopers, and was taken to Osceola County Animal Control.
