Email prompts lockdown at FIT

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Florida Institute of Technology was put on lockdown Monday evening.

Melbourne Police said the lockdown was prompted by an email.

Police would not say to whom the email was addressed, but did say they were looking into the possibility that a student's email account was hacked.

Students told Channel 9 that they received an automated call warning them of a viable threat.

The students said they were warned to stay inside of their rooms after reports of a gunman on campus.

Police said the lockdown last about two hours.
