Police: Security guard arrested after shooting woman at Orlando apartment complex

ORLANDO, Fla. — Police said a security guard at the Windsor Cove Apartments on Mercy Drive shot a woman in the arm after she struck him with her car Wednesday.

However, investigators said they determined through statements and evidence that the security guard, Johnathan Coleman, placed himself in front of the car, and although the driver of the car did strike him as she attempted to go around him, Coleman was no longer facing an imminent threat and fired his gun at the woman from behind the vehicle as it had already passed.

WFTV's legal analyst said since Coleman doesn't have the authority to detain anyone, and the woman was driving away from him, it will be hard for him to use the stand your ground defense.

Coleman was arrested on charges of aggravated battery with a firearm.

Witnesses told police the guard stepped in front of the car and he was struck. That’s when he reportedly opened fire and shot the woman in the arm.

She was transported with non-life-threatening injuries to a nearby hospital.

The security guard also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.
