Albert Pujols hits 700th home run, joins baseball legends Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth

LOS ANGELES — St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols joined an exclusive club on Friday night, becoming the fourth player in major league history to connect for his 700th home run. Pujols hit two home runs against the Los Angeles Dodgers to achieve the feat.

According to The Associated Press, only three other baseball legends have made the 700 home run club — Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth.

Pujols, 42, has said that this season is his final one after playing for 22 years, according to Major League Baseball.

According to MLB, Bonds hit 762 home runs, Aaron hit 755 and Ruth connected 714 times. They are the only ones in MLB history to hit at least 700 home runs during their careers.

MLB reported that Pujols and Aaron are the only two players with at least 3,000 hits and 700 home runs.

Pujols first hit his 699th home run in the third inning and the ball traveled 434 feet as fans at Dodger Stadium gave him a standing ovation, according to the AP.

According to the Washington Post, the 700th home run was a three-run blast off right-hander Phil Bickford that was parked into the left field seats at Chavez Ravine.

Pujols rejoined the St. Louis Cardinals for a one-year deal in the spring It is the team where he made a name for himself, according to The Washington Post.

Pujols is also the most “prolific Dominican hitter” in baseball history, also becoming the first player from the Caribbean island to hit 700 home runs, according to the Post.
