Texas man accused of driving 157 mph in crash that killed teen

FORT WORTH, Texas — A Texas man is accused of driving over 150 mph when he crashed into an SUV, killing a teen passenger, police said.

Two other occupants in the SUV were injured in the March 15 crash, the Fort Worth Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Shaundi Smallwood, 19, was killed in the accident, WFAA reported. Smallwood’s mother told WFAA that her son had been with friends at Six Flags the day of the deadly accident. According to his mother, Smallwood had celebrated his birthday just three days before the accident.

Bryce Abernathy, 22, was driving a white Camaro at excessive speeds on the interstate when he collided with the SUV. Police said the airbag control module indicated that Abernathy was driving 157 mph in a 70 mph zone.

Abernathy has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of manslaughter, police said.
