Daytona Beach police officer shot, suspect killed in Holly Hill shootout

HOLLY HILL, Fla. — A Daytona Beach police officer was shot and another officer was injured in a shootout with an attempted murder suspect Saturday.

Police got an anonymous tip that a man wanted for shooting a woman in the back in Daytona Beach two weeks ago was at an apartment off of Espanola Ave. in Holly Hill.

According to police,when officers entered the apartment to arrest the suspect, he fled into a bedroom in the back of the apartment.

As officers moved in, they say the suspect opened fire, striking one officer in his vest.

The other officer injured his neck when he fell during the shooting.

Both men were taken to the hospital and are expected to be OK, according to Chief Craig Capri.

Another officer involved in the shooting was not injured.

All three officers are on paid leave which is standard procedure while FDLE investigates
