22% of positive elementary school students are ‘silent carriers,’ data shows

COVID-19 cases among students have nearly doubled since a month ago, according to a Central Florida statistician.

According to a local statistician, 22% of positive elementary school students are silent carriers of COVID-19.

Every week, the Department of Health publishes a school report which lists every Florida school and records if a student, teacher or staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

On Oct. 24, the Department of Health said a total of almost 5,500 Florida students had tested positive for COVID-19.

By Nov. 14, that number had ballooned to nearly 10,600 students.

As for teachers, 639 had tested positive by Oct. 24. By Nov. 14, that number had more than doubled to 1,300.

Staff members also had a significant increase in COVID-19 cases this past month from 425 to 831.
