Florida may not see major surge in COVID-19 cases fall, local doctor says

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — As states across the country are beginning to see another surge in COVID-19 cases, doctors from AdventHealth say Florida may not see a major spike in cases this fall.

Florida was one of the first states to see a major surge in coronavirus cases when COVID-19 began to make its way across the U.S.

Looking across the country now there are about 10 states seeing record-high numbers of hospitalizations. And for now, Florida is not one of them.

“I think we are over the hump, at least in the state of Florida,” Dr. Michael Keating said.

But that doesn’t mean Floridians are doing everything right.

There is a concern in the cases among young adults as college parties, sporting events, political rallies and bars are still showing signs of causing infections.

Keating said behavior will decide what continues to happen.
