FHP: 1 dead, 6 injured after teen driving stolen car runs red light in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal early morning crash in Orange County.

The crash happened near the intersection of Dean Road and State Road 408 around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Investigators said a Toyota 4Runner was traveling eastbound from the State Road 408 exit ramps and was making a left turn onto Dean Road on a green light.

Troopers said meanwhile, a Hyundai Santa Fe that was traveling southbound on Dean Road ran a red light, drove above the speed limit and crashed directly into the left side of the Toyota.

Because of the impact, the Hyundai hit the median curb and overturned on its side.

The 23-year-old Toyota driver from Palm Coast was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 15-year-old Orlando driver of the Hyundai and five teenage passengers were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Five of the people in the vehicle were transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital and one passenger was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Troopers are still working to confirm the identifications of those involved.

FHP said the Orange County Sheriff’s Office identified the Hyundai as a reported stolen car.

There is currently a roadblock for the northbound and southbound lanes on Dean Road.

This crash remains under investigation.
