1 dead in New Smyrna Beach house fire

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — The state fire marshal is investigating a fatal fire at a home on Oak Street in New Smyrna Beach.

A man made it out of the burning house, but was unable to get his brother out, officials said.

Firefighters were called to the home just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning, where they found 44-year-old Danny Henry dead.

Firefighters said flames had consumed most of the home when they arrived.

WFTV spoke with a neighbor who described the moments before she saw the fire.

"I heard a big explosion, [and] then all of a sudden, I just seen everything go up in flames," said the neighbor, whose name was not given.

While no foul play is suspected, the sheriff’s office said it is conducting a death investigation. Volusia County Fire Services and the state Fire Marshal’s Office are investigation the cause of the fire.
