12-year-old fatally shot inside Lake County home where 3 unsecured firearms were found, deputies say

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A 12-year-old boy was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound inside a Lake County home Monday morning, deputies said.

Deputies said they responded to a 911 call at about 9 a.m. and found the boy, identified as Jeremyah Wyatt, dead inside the home on Singletary Road in Lady Lake.

Investigators said they do not suspect that any family members shot the boy and are looking into whether the shooting was accidental. They said Wyatt lived in the home with his father, stepmother and three siblings.

“Detectives have found three unsecured firearms in the home and basically what the evidence is showing is that this point leads detectives to believe that this young man gained access to a firearm and it looks like he accidental shot himself,” John Herrell, with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, said.

The investigation is ongoing.
