ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — A Central Florida neighborhood is honoring the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a striking display of nearly 3,000 American flags.
A viewer shared photos with Channel 9 showing 2,977 flags lining Academy Oaks Place in Altamonte Springs.
A sign posted with the display explains that each flag represents one of the 2,977 people killed in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
The flags stretch along the neighborhood street, creating a memorial ahead of the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
The display honors those killed at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and aboard the four hijacked planes.
The viewer who shared the photos described the memorial as an “amazing tribute” to the victims.
The United States will mark 25 years since the attacks on Friday, Sept. 11.
