ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Three suspects accused of stealing items from cemetery niches containing cremated remains have been arrested, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Drake Milam and Angela Garrett were arrested in Indiana. A third suspect, Porsche Bancroft, surrendered at the Seminole County Jail.
All three face multiple charges, including injuring or removing a tomb or monument, disturbing the contents of a grave or tomb and grand theft of more than $20,000.
Investigators said the suspects lived in Indiana but traveled across several states, including Florida, Texas, Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, Illinois, Iowa, New York and New Jersey.
The 20 known cases involve more than $35,000 in stolen property. Florida cases have been identified in Orange, Seminole and Hillsborough counties, as well as the city of Winter Park.
Detectives are continuing to search for additional victims and determine the full scope of the alleged thefts.
The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging families with loved ones buried at cemeteries to inspect their resting places and confirm that cherished items remain there.
