LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — In 2011 the Lake County School Board agreed to spend $3.9 million to cover the cost of a track, baseball and softball fields and a football/soccer complex at the brand new Lake Minneola High School.
Two years later, complaints are pouring in that the field has been neglected and doesn't look like a six- or seven-figure field.
"It's kind of patchy. It doesn't seem like they're taking care of it like they should be," said parent Richard Walker.
Lake Minneola High School was built to the tune of $40 million. It was considered the county's most state-of-the-art school.
Even with that price tag, board members had to vote to spend an additional $3.9 million on upgrades to its athletic facilities.
"Just the fact that it's not kept up -- it should be kept up. The money that's spent, it should be in a lot better condition than it is," Walker said.
The principal said Lake County Schools is sending someone out Friday morning to see the field firsthand.
Eyewitness News went to practice, but were asked not to interview the coach or players.
The home opener is set for Friday night on a field that doesn't look like a million bucks.
"It doesn't look presentable. They should have a brand-new looking field," Walker said.
