VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 14-year-old Altamonte Springs boy drowned at Daytona Beach on Thursday afternoon.
Volusia County Beach Safety said the boy was swimming with his friends near the Hard Rock Hotel around 7:30 p.m.
The three other teens whom the boy was swimming with started making their way to shore when they could no longer see him, beach safety said.
Officials then searched the water with rescue skis, drones and rescue swimmers. The search ended around 9 p.m. due to low visibility.
Beach safety officials said the missing swimmer was found less than a mile north of where he was reported missing, about 30 minutes later by bystanders.
Officials performed lifesaving measures and took the boy to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
