Another busy day expected at local park as people line up to get tested, vaccinated ahead of holiday

ORLANDO, Fla. — Central Floridians are lining up to get tested for COVID-19 before the holidays.

Some people waited hours to be tested at Barnett Park as cases started to rise in Orange County.

The 14-day rolling positivity rate in the county is just above 5%. Last week, it was 3.8%.

Despite cases creeping up, the leaders said they won’t be changing any COVID-19 measures at this time.

The Barnett Park site was slammed Monday, with people lining up to get their third vaccine or get tested for the virus.

The site reached capacity around 1:30 p.m. and had to close about three-and-a-half-hours early.

Channel 9 spoke to a woman who patiently waited three hours to get tested ahead of the holidays.

“We wanted to get tested because we’re having a big party, a family reunion, so we want to be responsible and come here to see if we have it,” said Milagro Lira.

The Barnett Park site opens at 9 a.m.

It’s supposed to stay open until 5 p.m. but it could reach capacity and close early.

The site will also be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
