SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — It’s a crime gaining traction in some Central Florida neighborhoods: attacks on mail carriers.
Now, an apartment complex is the scene of the latest attack.
Since November, 9 Investigates has been telling you about the rise in attacks on mail carriers. Thieves are looking for the postal arrow key, which can be used to open up community mailboxes.
The most recent attack was on a mail carrier last week at an apartment complex in Altamonte Springs.
Authorities said the attack may be connected to another one an hour earlier in Orlando. In that attack, the postal carrier was able to fend off her attackers. But at the Altamira Apartments an hour later, the men matching the same descriptions were successful in getting the postal arrow key at gunpoint.
The post office said it is determined to get the key back.
The three men, all wearing masks and about 20 years old, approached the mailman and demanded at gunpoint for his postal arrow key.
