With the holidays approaching, the county took the opportunity on Friday to provide its last COVID-19 update of the year.

The community health nursing director for the Florida Department of Health in Brevard said 110,000 residents have received their booster shots, but new vaccinations remain stagnant countywide, with 66% of the population age 5 and older having been vaccinated.

The county saw a steady decline in COVID-19 cases throughout the month of November, but over the past two weeks numbers have slowly been rising. At the end of last week, the county was at 50 cases per 100,000 population, just tipping the county into the “substantial transmission” category.

“With other holidays upon us, we just want people to know don’t forget that if you’re sick, then you shouldn’t go to the holiday party, you shouldn’t go to the family gathering,” Don Walker, the director of Brevard County Communications, said. “You should stay home and take care of yourself.”
