MELBOURNE, Fla. — A major step forward is underway for a proposed professional soccer stadium in Melbourne.
Mayor Paul Alfrey tells us that the sale of nearly 54 acres from Melbourne Orlando International Airport to the development group has been cleared. And Eyewitness News has learned an expansion agreement is now in place for Space Coast Soccer.
The proposed 8,000-seat United Soccer League stadium along NASA Boulevard would also include about 55,000 square feet of retail and dining, a soccer training facility, youth sports space, farmers markets, concerts and other events.
Building permits have been submitted, and the goal is to open for the USL 2028 professional soccer season.
The project still needs investment and infrastructure to move forward.
