DELAND, Fla. — A 23-year-old Oklahoma man was found dead Sunday morning after his car crashed into the Banana River near the Relief Bridge on the West Cocoa Beach Causeway, police said.
Cocoa Beach police and Fire Rescue responded around 7:20 a.m. Aug. 9 after a passerby spotted the rear bumper of a vehicle protruding from the water.
Rescue crews found the man, who was the only person inside a gray Nissan Altima, in the driver’s seat. Investigators said the vehicle left the roadway at a high rate of speed and became submerged in about eight feet of water.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team helped recover the vehicle. Police said no foul play is suspected.
