Snorkeling tourist on cruise out of Port Canaveral killed by shark in Bahamas

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. — Investigators in the Bahamas are trying to understand what led to a deadly shark attack.

Police said a 58-year-old woman from Pennsylvania was killed after leaving on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship out of Port Canaveral.

The woman and her family boarded the ship in Brevard County on Sunday.

Officials said the horrific attack was also witnessed by the woman’s family.

According to officials, the American tourist was snorkeling when she was attacked.

Police said the woman took an independent snorkeling excursion in Nassau with her family Tuesday.

Officials said the woman was snorkeling near Rose Island, a popular tourist spot.

Authorities said she was attacked by a bull shark and died before she made it to a hospital.

She was a passenger on Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean issued a statement saying in part it’s “providing support and assistance to the guest’s loved ones during this difficult time.”
