Brightline sets sights on future expansion to Disney Springs, Tampa

ORLANDO, Fla. — While work continues on Brightline’s Orlando extension, the high-speed company is already looking ahead to what’s next.

The rail service recently laid out its future expansion to Florida’s west coast.

Future expansions are planned for Disney Springs and Tampa.

“That ultimate connection to Tampa is our vision and we are working closely with FDOT to accommodate us in the I-4 corridor,” said Christine Kefauver with Brightline.

Officials are in talks with local leaders to figure out where the best location for a station would be. Kefauver said it would likely go in the Ybor City area, very close to I-4.

The extension would give thousands of people the opportunity to travel by train from Orlando to Tampa and vice-versa for business or leisure, which officials said would lead to a big boost.

In some stretches of the Orlando extension, the train will reach 125 mph for the Tampa leg.
