Can you help ‘Elfie’ find his owner?

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — This dog may look festive and cheery, but officials at Halifax Humane Society in Daytona Beach think he’s probably a bit stressed since apparently getting lost.

HHS workers believe the stray dog, outfitted in a green and red elf sweater, recently became separated from his owner.

“Elfie,” a nickname the brown and black dog was given after being found on Dec. 28 in Port Orange, is clearly based on his holiday attire.

He was found near Orange Avenue and Niver Street on Wednesday.

Since HHS officials believe that the dog’s owners are frantically searching for him, they’re hoping to spread the word that he’s now at their shelter.

“Elfie” was also wearing a black harness and looks like a miniature German Shepherd.

He weighs about 20 pounds and is approximately two years old.

“The local animal shelter is the first place a pet owner should look for their lost animal. More often than not the animal is brought to the shelter by Animal Control or a member of the public concerned about the animal.” HHS’ Community Outreach Director Barry KuKes said.

He also reminded pet owners that microchipping — typically less than $30 — is a wise investment, as are pet collars with ID tags.

“Reuniting pets with their owners is much easier and faster when the proper identification is with the pet,” KuKes added.

If you’re the owner of “Elfie” or know whom he belongs to, you’re urged to contact HHS by calling 386-274-4703 or emailing admissions@halifaxhumanesociety.org

He’s being cared for at 2364 LPGA Boulevard in Daytona Beach.
