Latin Jazz and Art Festival comes to Casselberry on Sept. 12

CASSELBERRY, Fla. — The City of Casselberry will host its annual Latin Jazz and Art Festival on Saturday, Sept. 12, with live music, dance performances, visual art and food vendors.

The free event will run from 5 to 9 p.m. at Lake Concord Park, 95 Triplet Lake Drive.

Grammy-winning Puerto Rican flautist Néstor Torres will headline the festival alongside Emmy-nominated singer and composer Fabiola Méndez.

Music, dance and art throughout the evening

Kalindá, from the School of Bomba and Plena Tata Cepeda, will open the event with a performance rooted in traditional Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba.

Dimas Sánchez and the Afro Latin Jazz Project will perform later in the evening.

Torres and Méndez are scheduled to take the stage from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Torres has released 19 albums and won a Grammy for his 2001 album “This Side of Paradise.” His career has included collaborations with artists including Gloria Estefan, Herbie Hancock, Tito Puente and Arturo Sandoval.

Méndez blends folk, jazz and Afro-Caribbean influences in music inspired by Puerto Rican culture and identity.

Galleries, vendors also part of festival

Latin visual artists will display paintings, sculptures and mixed-media works at Casselberry City Hall, the Art House, Art Center and Sculpture House from 5 to 8 p.m.

Food and product vendors will be open throughout the event, with a focus on Latin cuisine.
